Kampong Cham, or Kompong Cham, is a city in Cambodia, the capital of the homonymous province. Its name means "The port of the Cham". Nestled on the banks of the imposing Mekong River, Kampong Cham was a very large port in the past, a commercial center between the Cham and Khmer people. Also worth visiting is the Angkorian temple of Wat Nokor, from the 11th century, built in sandstone and laterite. Beautiful is the river island on the Mekong, called Koh Pen and connected to the city by a long bamboo bridge.
