Savannakhet

Officially known as the Muong Khantabouli, Savannakhet is the second largest city of Laos, after Vientiane. The capital town of the province is of the same name.
After the establishment of the Lao - Thai Friendship Bridge II in January 2007 which links Savannakhet to Mukdahan (Thailand), the city solidified its reputation as the economic capital of the Thousand Elephants Country.
About 6 to 7 hours drive from Vientiane, Savannakhet has many tourist attractions. A trip around Savannakhet might be interesting because of its old French colonial architecture and also eco-hiking. Do not miss the Dinosaur Museum, Wat Xayaphoum, The Catholic Church, Ing Hang Stupa....
