Khammouane province is bounded to the north by Borikhamxay province, to the east by Vietnamese border, to the south by Savannakhet province and the last side by the Mekong.
Located along the Mekong River, its capital - Thakhek is now connected to Thailand by the third Lao - Thai Friendship Bridge.
Khammouane covers about 16,000 square kilometers and has the population of about 330,000. Most of its population works in agriculture sector.
This region consists of many karsts massifs which are considered as one of the most beautiful landscapes of Laos. It also has five National Protected Areas and a huge National Biodiversity Conservation Zone.
